It’s great to be riding your motorcycle on Singapore roads after the rainy season. With the current all-day equatorial sunshine brightening up our little island it’s beautiful one day, perfect the next.
Bike clubs have come out stretching their legs and itching for a windy suntan. Hornets Nest motorcycling club leads the way with a very cool way to spend a Sunday afternoon – go on a treasure hunt on wheels! And boy can they travel! A day spent roaming the Pagoh countryside and town is a great way to unwind, plus we got to discover many interesting things about Pagoh. It’s not just a mid- way rest and petrol stop to Kuala Lumpur!
The Annual Phuket Bike Week again welcomes those traveling much further north on the motorcycle-jammed highways into Thailand. Now into its 13th year, SE Asia’s major biker event shows no signs of slowing down, drawing crowds and riders not only from Asia but also round the World. Here’s the best chance to catch the craziest custom motorcycles and motorized frankensteins on wheels. MCA’s Jeffrey tried his very best to photograph all the dazzling chrome on display.
Kallang’s racing season has finally started. The Yamaha Cub grand prix drew loads of race supporters and spectators. The new circuit designed by the SMSA definitely lived up to expectations with non-stop track action and crashes at every round. The SMSA did a great job in minimising rider injuries amongst the intensely competitive racers. We had a great time roaming around the controlled circuit to get the best shots. Not to mention an interview with the only lady racer at the event - Barbara the definitive racer queen!
Sandstorms are stirring up in the city as well, with MSSC at the helm of the Channel U Motocross Challenge at the *scape field south of Orchard Cineleisure. Each round seems to draw larger crowds or fans of the Channel U artistes. If you missed out on the action, be sure to catch the smiles and spills in this issue of MotoCulture.
More local motorcycle and scooter clubs are starting to have their voices heard. This issue we introduce the woman-only Sheriders of Singapore! Ladies who not only look good but ride motorcycles as well – every biker’s wet dream. MCA also speeds up to have a chat with the Falcon Riders, Singapore’s Hayabusa groupie. Not forgetting the supermotards and scooters, the DRZ group, GMax Riderz and Trupaz Gilera Runners’ club are all featured to show off their club spirits!
Enjoy this issue of Motor Culture Asia and we look to your continued support (keep subscribing!). Keep the magazine going and the passion alive. It’s not what you ride, but that you ride. Keep on riding in 2007!
