Hope you like Yvonne on our cover this issue. After two successive covers featuring Kuhara’s MSS racing steed and factory bikes like the RSV4 SBK carving corners around the tracks we wanted a different set of curves this time on September’s issue of MCA. Yvonne is our Yamaha Pit Girls contest online voting champion and also Miss Photogenic. To catch the real pit queen, visit our YZF-R15 Pit Girls winner Nicole’s spread inside as she speaks her mind about bikes and biker men.
Speaking of men and their bikes, we review a host of worthy steeds ranging from the vintage heavyweight Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic to the super cool and versatile BMW F650GS. Need to go fast? Check out the SBK-version Aprilia RSV4 and the MotoGP-inspired Yamaha YZF-R1. Get an insight of Yamaha’s all-new cross-plane crank and what it does for the latest 2009 R1 engine. Rossi used it last season to win MotoGP and he’s still the current series leader. The cross-plane looks set to change the face of sportsbike performance through better traction rather than outright power. Feel it to believe it.
New to motorcycling? Look no further than our excellent range of 2B-class rides from both the sharp and sleek Yamaha YZF-R15 and Derbi GPR125 sportsbikes, to the small capacity streetfighters like the Cagiva Raptor, and the retro-styled, cool and functional scooters from the Aprilia Mojito, Daelim B-bone and the Kymco Downtown. The riding starts here in MCA!
Our MCA historical archives reveals more of the golden years of motorcycling races in Singapore from the 1960’s till the mid 80’s. We uncover past champions in the form of the Loois brothers who showed Singapore the meaning of being a true-blue GP racer and putting their weight on the words “heart, soul and determination”.
The lions at the MSS are also doing great, with a possible series championship win by HKL Singapore’s team with two more rounds to go. The boys at Motoworld continue to hold their own in their respective categories as well. The final round will coincide with Sepang’s MotoGP race in end October. Will the coveted Malaysian Super Series trophy finally make its way to Singapore to crown off a superb year for our local racing teams? We hope so.
Ride it like you’re part of Motor Culture Asia!
